Croatia's leaders share Easter messages of hope, solidarity, and peace

Croatia’s president, prime minister, and parliament speaker have issued Easter greetings, highlighting hope, solidarity, and resilience in uncertain times.

President Zoran Milanović said Croatians are approaching the most important Christian holiday at a moment when “darkness seems to be spreading across the globe.” In such times, he stressed, it is vital to believe that light will prevail.

“In such a reality, it is difficult—but all the more necessary—to proclaim faith in the victory of light over darkness and hope for a new beginning, as generations have done through their faith in Easter. We cannot remain silent in the face of the suffering caused by wars around the world, nor indifferent to the injustices and hardships faced by the Croatian people. Yet words alone are not enough—care for others must be shown through concrete actions that bring hope and encouragement,” the president said.

Prime Minister Andrej Plenković said Easter is a time to do good, foster mutual respect and understanding, and strengthen solidarity, especially with the most vulnerable.

“On the eve of the greatest Christian feast, we are also confronted with a range of global and security challenges that affect the daily lives of Croatian citizens. That is why we will remain steadfast in our commitment to peace, democratic values, and social cohesion, while continuing to protect the standard of living of our citizens and the strength of our economy,” he said.

Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković also emphasized the importance of faith and hope.

“Easter is a lasting and unique source of strength and inspiration for believers, especially in times marked by growing challenges and uncertainty. May the Easter message of Christ’s hope fill our homes with abundant blessings, peace, and steadfast faith, and inspire us to be bearers of encouragement and sincere support for one another,” he said.
