Today is Holy Saturday, when Catholics and many other Christians prepare for Easter, the most important holiday on the Christian calendar.

It is a day of silent prayer, fasting, and reflection. Tonight, many believers across the country will gather in local churches for the Easter Vigil, the central celebration of the Resurrection.

The Archbishop of Zagreb, Monsignor Dražen Kutleša, has issued an Easter message addressing the uncertainty of the present time.

“The peace that the risen Christ brings is not merely a greeting or a wish, but a gift of God’s victory over all that destroys humanity. Today, this gift is needed by everyone, everywhere—in Croatia, across Europe, and throughout the world. As we see images of destroyed cities, refugees, the wounded, and children left without parents, we come to understand the preciousness of peace. In our hearts, the same cry arises—the prayer of the Church: ‘Risen Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, grant us peace,’” the Archbishop said.
