Economy Minister at US gas summit: Croatia strengthens regional energy security

Croatia has built a system that reliably delivers energy and contributes to stability in its part of Europe, Economy Minister Ante Šušnjar said at the Transatlantic Gas Security Summit in Washington, the Ministry of Economy reported Wednesday.

The summit brought together government officials, representatives of international institutions, and energy sector leaders from Europe and the United States to discuss the security of energy supplies and the future of transatlantic energy cooperation.

Speaking at the event, Šušnjar emphasized that energy security is a key factor for European stability and resilience. He highlighted Croatia’s role in strengthening supply security in Central and Southeast Europe through the development of Adriatic infrastructure and the integration of regional energy systems.

During the summit, Šušnjar held his third meeting with U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright, underscoring an accelerated strategic energy dialogue between Croatia and the United States.

The discussions also covered regional energy infrastructure projects, including the southern gas interconnection with Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Ionian-Adriatic gas pipeline. These projects are seen as strategic corridors for diversifying gas supplies in the region.

Šušnjar stressed that the Adriatic pipeline provides a reliable alternative route for non-Russian oil to Central Europe, further enhancing regional energy stability.

He also highlighted the importance of the Three Seas Initiative, which Croatia currently chairs, and expressed the expectation that energy security and infrastructure discussions will continue at the initiative’s summit in Dubrovnik this April.
