The European Commission Representation in Croatia organized the conference "Pact for the Mediterranean - Partnerships for a Changing World". The pact was designed to strengthen cooperation and economic ties between Mediterranean countries.

Ante Kolanović told Croatian Television that the strategic importance of the pact is to connect the EU and the southern Mediterranean region as closely as possible and to make things better for everyone living in this area one day.

“The conference is structured through 3 panels, or 3 thematic pillars. The first will discuss migration, which is an increasing problem in Croatia. The second pillar will discuss an applicable and integrated economy. The third and most important pillar will discuss the resource of human creativity that can be counted on in projects,” he said.

Various matters were discussed at the ministerial meeting, and it was attended by Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman and Minister of Culture and Media Nina Obuljen Koržinek.

“The head of the Union for the Mediterranean, Nasser Kamel, is also here. Dubravka Šuica opened the conference on behalf of the European Commission and presented the strategic significance of the Pact,” said Kolanović.

“The Pact is very important given that it is based on 3 pillars. One pillar is people and skills, the second pillar is economy and energy, and the third pillar is migration, security, migration management and resilience,” said Dubravka Šuica, EC Commissioner for the Mediterranean.

“The Pact is a very useful framework for promoting ties between the European Union and all countries surrounding this beautiful Mediterranean basin,” emphasized Theodora Constantinidou, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus.

“We are truly honored that Zadar was chosen as the first city to present the Pact for the Mediterranean, as a city with its great tradition, culture and example of a Mediterranean city,” emphasized Šime Erlić, Mayor of Zadar.
