Croatian Veterans' Minister Tomo Medved and Health Minister Irena Hrstić welcomed 19 wounded Ukrainian soldiers at the Zagreb airport on Tuesday, who will be sent for rehabilitation in Croatian institutions, which is one of the forms of providing support to the Ukrainian people.

On that occasion, Minister Tomo Medved told reporters that the Ukrainian soldiers were wounded in the previous period and will be sent for rehabilitation in special institutions in Croatia and veterans' centers of the Ministry of Croatian Veterans.

“Today, when the Prime Minister is in Ukraine with the clear goal of providing support to the Ukrainian people, here in Zagreb we are sending a message that we will continue to provide support through various forms, but especially through providing support to the wounded who were wounded in battles for the freedom of Ukraine,” said Medved.

He added that this is just one of the directions of assistance that the Republic of Croatia provides to the friendly people of Ukraine, with material, financial and military support.

So far, 72 wounded people from Ukraine have been in Croatia in four groups, 12 of them are currently undergoing treatment and rehabilitation, and now these 19, who arrived today, are being assigned to institutions, he said.

“Our teams coordinated with colleagues in Ukraine before their arrival, so we already know their diagnoses, types of wounds and injuries well, and the institutions where they will be placed already have their entire health picture, meaning they are ready to begin the treatment and rehabilitation process immediately upon admission to the institutions,” emphasized Minister Medved.

He also thanked the Ministry of Health and other departments for their contribution to organizing the admission of the wounded, as well as the MEDEVAC team that already transported the fifth group of wounded by plane, so that this process would be as fast as possible and so that people with pain and serious wounds could be admitted to institutions as soon as possible.

Minister Irena Hrstić emphasized that good organization makes the difficult admission of seriously wounded individuals easier.

“The most important part of the admission of patients is the preparatory part. We already know everything, which means that the wounded were pre-distributed to health institutions depending on their health needs,” Hrstić emphasized and thanked Minister Medved for the continuity in the organization and coordination of several ministries that are participating in the reception of Ukrainian wounded for the fifth time.

“This aid has a special meaning for the Ukrainian people. Croatia, which itself went through war and knows how important the support of friends is, is today showing a big heart and true solidarity with Ukraine,” said Andrij Lupak, advisor to the Ukrainian Ambassador to the Republic of Croatia.
