Croatia highlights sailing strengths at Düsseldorf Boat Show

The world’s largest yacht and water sports trade fair is under way in Düsseldorf, Germany, bringing together everything sailing-related — from super-luxury yachts to surfboards.

Alongside the latest trends in boats and marine equipment, the show also promotes popular nautical destinations, including Croatia, which has ranked among the world’s most sought-after sailing locations for years.

“Croatia has been exhibiting at this event for many years, not only through the Croatian Tourist Board booth,” said Romeo Draghicchio, head of the Croatian National Tourist Board office in Germany. “There are also many independent Croatian exhibitors here, such as charter companies. This entire space is really about Croatia.”

Despite ongoing challenges such as geopolitical tensions and inflation, nautical tourism remains a stable segment of the industry, according to Adriana Mišković, communications and marketing director at ACI marinas.

“We expect this trend to continue into 2026,” Mišković said, citing Croatia’s strengths, including the world’s largest charter fleet, a highly indented coastline, short distances between destinations, favorable winds, and strong maritime infrastructure.

Sailboats and catamarans remain in high demand, while interest is growing in 12- to 20-meter motor yachts and vessels over 40 meters among higher-end buyers, said Žarko Knego of charter company Euromarine.

Germany remains the most important source market for Croatia’s nautical tourism, with many visitors returning year after year.

“Whenever I’m in Croatia, I discover a new place, and the islands are truly special,” said Manfred Skalnik, a German visitor to the trade fair.

The Düsseldorf boat show runs until January 25.
