Croatia’s unusually warm November weather is coming to an abrupt end.
A strong change arrives on Monday, with the coast under an orange alert and the interior under a yellow alert due to the risk of severe winds and thunderstorms.
Temperatures are expected to drop by ten degrees or more, and mountain regions could even see snow, meteorologist Tomislava Hojsak of the Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service told HRT.
“On Monday, we’ll still have strong southeasterly winds, unusually warm temperatures, and heavy rain along the Adriatic,” Hojsak said. “But the most intense part of this system will arrive overnight into Tuesday, as cold air moves in from the north with very strong north-northeasterly gusts. At higher elevations, rain could turn to snow.”
The shift will be most dramatic along the northern coast, where a moderate northeasterly wind will strengthen, reaching very high speeds in the Velebit area. Cold air will reach the shoreline as well, bringing temperatures down to around 5°C. The south is expected to see a milder change.
The largest temperature drop will hit the interior, where values could fall by more than ten degrees, Hojsak said.
