Croatia pays respect to all those interred in Serbian concentration camps

A commemoration was held today in Knin, marking the Day of Remembrance for Prisoners of Serbian and Montenegrin Concentration Camps during the Homeland War and the 35th anniversary of the first exchange of prisoners from the Knin area.

More than two hundred Croatian defenders and civilians were interred in Serb-run camps in Knin, some of whom did not survive the torture. A third of those exchanged were police officers from Glina, captured after the fall of the police station in June of 1991.

The President of the Croatian Association of Serbian Concentration Camp Inmates from Split-Dalmatia County, Ivan Turudić: "It is always important to send a message from precisely this place, from Knin, where there were concentration camps during the Homeland War, that all of those inmates who unfortunately did not live to see their day of freedom, their second birthday, have not been forgotten, that we will always honor their memories and that we will remind all future generations of the sacrifice that is woven into the fabric of our Croatian homeland."
