Focus on the motorway to Dubrovnik

At the ceremonial session of the County Assembly at the Marin Držić Theatre, Prime Minister Andrej Plenković emphasized that the goal is to realize the full profile of the Ston to Dubrovnik motorway. “The focus is on the equality of this county, primarily in road connectivity,” said the Prime Minister.

Speaking about the economy and the labor market, Plenković emphasized that 51 thousand people are employed in Dubrovnik-Neretva County, while around 3,800 are unemployed. He assessed that Croatia is recording favorable economic trends and said that it has never been easier to find a job.

The Prime Minister also referred to the global crises, the rise in energy prices and the war in the Middle East, expressing hope that the situation will enter a calmer phase and enable the normalization of passage through the Strait of Hormuz.

New law and investments in the regions

He emphasized that Croatia must strengthen the competitiveness of the economy and strategic autonomy, especially in industry, energy and defense.

Plenković also reminded of the new Law on Regional Development and stated that Dubrovnik has been provided with 22 million euros for development projects through the Integrated Territorial Program. He added that 28 million euros have been secured for the development of the islands in seven coastal counties, including for the construction of kindergartens, schools and the renovation of sports halls.

In his speech, County Prefect Blaž Pezo, among other things, emphasized that the southernmost Croatian county is home to a rich history, priceless cultural heritage and natural beauty, but also home to hardworking people.

“Gaining the trust of these hardworking people makes proud, but also raises a responsibility. In these eleven months, I have particularly insisted on openness and togetherness, especially with cities and municipalities,” said Pezo, and listed a number of projects that are being developed in cooperation with the Government of the Republic of Croatia, from the motorway to Dubrovnik and the expressway to the Airport and across Pelješac, as well as fifteen projects in education.
