Dino Prižmić was eliminated in the third round of the Madrid Open.
After stunning Ben Shelton on Friday, the 20-year-old from Split was beaten by Tomás Martín Etcheverry in three sets, 2–6, 6–4, 6–3.
Prižmić started strongly, taking the opening set in just 37 minutes. However, the Argentine raised his level in the second set, while fatigue began to take its toll on the Croatian after four demanding matches.
Etcheverry broke early to claim the second set, then raced to a 5–1 lead in the decider. Prižmić managed to pull one break back, but could not complete the comeback.
On his way to the third round, Prižmić defeated Christopher O'Connell, Zsombor Piros, Matteo Berrettini, and Shelton.
Despite the defeat, Prižmić’s impressive run in Madrid will see him climb to 77th in the ATP rankings — a career high.
