Croatian tennis talent Dino Prižmić continues to impress at the Masters 1000 tournament in Madrid, delivering one of the standout performances of his young career.
After defeating Italy’s Matteo Berrettini in the opening round, the 20-year-old from Split-ranked 87th in the world-produced a remarkable victory over fourth seed and world number six Ben Shelton of the USA in the second round. Prižmić won 6:4, 6:7 (4), 7:6 (5) after an intense battle lasting over three hours.
It marks the biggest win of his career so far and his first against a Top 10 opponent.
Coming through qualifying, Prižmić has shown exceptional form throughout the tournament, continuing his momentum after earlier wins over Australia’s Christopher O’Connell and Hungary’s Zsombor Piros.
Against Shelton, he delivered a composed and fearless performance, not allowing a single break point on his own serve and creating multiple chances on return. The decisive moments came in key stages of each set, with Prižmić showing resilience under pressure, particularly in the final tie-break.
The young Croat from Split is now enjoying a breakthrough run on one of tennis’s biggest stages, further underlining his rising status on the ATP Tour.
In the next round, he will face the winner of the match between Austria’s Sebastian Ofner and Argentina’s Tomás Martín Etcheverry.
