At the World Economic Forum in Davos on Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the creation of a so-called “Board of Peace,” a new initiative tasked with overseeing the reconstruction of Gaza and promoting peaceful resolutions to other global conflicts.
Several countries have already joined the initiative, and dozens more have expressed interest.
"We will be very successful in Gaza," Trump said during his speech. "It’s going to be a great thing to watch, and we will be able to do a lot of other things. When the Board is fully formed, we will be able to do almost anything we want, and we will do it in cooperation with the United Nations. I have always said that the UN has tremendous potential, but it has not used it."
Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković addressed the country’s potential involvement via a post on X:
"Supporting and advancing the historic peace process in the Middle East remains one of the most important and noble objectives we share with the United States and the broader international community. In this spirit, the Croatian Government is currently assessing the legal and other aspects of the proposal and will constructively engage with our U.S. and European partners going forward. We will continue to strongly advocate for preserving and strengthening the transatlantic relationship and for advancing the cause of peace in the Middle East and beyond."
