A mausoleum in Borovo Selo dedicated to Vukašin Šoškočanin, a rebel Serb leader during the early days of the Homeland War, has been demolished.

The demolition began in November 2025, following the adoption of a new Law on Cemeteries, which requires the removal of inscriptions and monuments that offend national sentiment.

MP Stipo Mlinarić of the Homeland Movement said the removal was intended “for all defenders in Croatia who fought for an independent state.” He added, “This is a gift to them. Those Chetnik monuments undermined the dignity of true defenders. We paid a heavy price for our independence, so why were such monuments allowed to stand in Croatia for more than thirty years?”

Homeland Movement President Ivan Penava noted that the mausoleum had stood for three decades, honoring “a Chetnik commander who openly boasted about his role in the killing of 12 Croatian police officers in Borovo Selo during the Homeland War.”

Penava emphasized that all remaining monuments glorifying the aggression against Croatia must also be removed.
