Škoro confirms he is quitting his Homeland Movement party entirely

Miroslav Škoro has asked to be formally released from his membership in the Homeland Movement, the party he founded, HRT has confirmed.

The entertainer and entrepreneur-turned politician confirmed to HRT in a text that he was quitting the party entirely, after he resigned as its leader and from all party functions a month ago.

“I cannot talk right now, but it is true that after all of the slander, attacks, lies and the initiation of a Kafkaesque disciplinary proceeding against me, I have concluded it would be better for me to leave. This is not the company I want to keep. These are not my values. I wish them well but everyone has a right to go their own way. This is the end of the road for me,” Škoro wrote in a text in response to a question from HRT.

In a decision that took many by surprise, Škoro resigned on July 20. At the time he said that we wanted to unburden the party from being inextricably linked to his name. Since then he has accused former colleagues of a power grab.

“My resignation was not intended for someone else to latch on to an opportunity. I hoped that the party would be strengthened in some way,” he said.

In the wake of his resignation, media outlets had reported that Škoro was being accused by colleagues of lining his own pockets with party money by selling his wine, which was allegedly never delivered, Christmas CD-s, and giving his party credit card to a young female assistant. He denies all of these allegations. The party initiated a disciplinary proceeding after the allegations came to light.
