Primorac says he is satisfied with his term as Finance Minister

On Wednesday the Croatian Parliament's Committee for European Affairs approved the outgoing Finance Minister's candidacy for Vice-President of the European Investment Bank. As previously reported, Primorac allegedly personally requested that he be selected as the Croatian nominee for the post.

Earlier on Wednesday outgoing Finance Minister Marko Primorac appeared on Croatian Radio to discussed his three and a half years in office: "I have to admit that I am first and foremost satisfied with the continued stability of public finances and the lowering of debt as a percentage of GDP. During my mandate we achieved both Maastricht criteria for the first time, as well as a historically high credit rating, which now an "A" level rating. We also joined the Eurozone and the Schengen Area."

As to how his role at the European Investment Bank can benefit Croatia Primorac said: "We can use this opportunity to strengthen Croatia's positioning and with the role of vice president, ensure that the European Investment Bank deploys its financial instruments effectively for the benefit of the entire European Union but also for Croatia's benefit."

Prime Minister Andrej Plenković also commented on Primorac's role at the European Investment Bank: "We will have a Croatian representative at the top level of leadership at the European Investment Bank, an expert in economics and finance, who can help us make even better use of this this top-level multi-lateral financial institution."

Primorac has been finance minister since 2022. This is the first time since joining the European Union and the European Investment Bank that Croatia has the opportunity to propose a candidate for the position of EIB Vice-President.
