The protest is being organized by the Confederation of Autonomous Trade Unions, the Federation of Croatian Trade Unions, the Independent Croatian Trade Unions and the Pensioners' Union, who say they have had enough of the unfair distribution of jointly acquired wealth, and the low salaries and pensions in Croatia.

On Tuesday the heads of the major unions in Croatia held a press conference at which they called on workers and citizens to attend a protest on April 18th on Zagreb's central Ban Jelačić Square. The protest is being held under the slogan "Croatia united together for higher salaries and pensions."

The president of the Confederation of Autonomous Trade Unions of Croatia, Mladen Novosel, called for a unified fight for a dignified life in Croatia: “Croatian unions call all workers, pensioners, students and all citizens, to say enough to this general unjust distribution of collectively accumulated wealth, low wages and low pensions. Together we can and will fight for a better life in Croatia."

The president of the Croatian Teachers' Union, Sanja Šprem, added that it is this generation’s responsibility to ensure conditions that will enable younger generations of Croatians to live and prosper in their own country: “Together we have to fight for higher wages and better pensions. Together we have to encourage younger generations to stay in Croatia, because they will join the workforce and we have to ensure them a dignified cost of labour and a future for our homeland.”
