Commenting on the employment situation and other key economic indicators in Croatia on Tuesday, the Croatian Prime Minister highlighted a number of positive trends in the Croatian economy and also referred to price movements and the situation in tourism.
Speaking after a meeting of the HDZ Party Presidency, party president and Croatian Prime Minister, Andrej Plenković, said that employment data and numerous other economic indicators are positive: “Croatia is recording an unprecedentedly low unemployment rate, below 4%. When we started, the ratio was around six employed to one unemployed person and today it is approximately 25 employed to one unemployed person.”
Plenković added that the deficit and public debt have been reduced and highlighted forward economic progress: “The deficit is around 3%, public debt is at 56.3% of GDP, we have an investment credit rating, we are members of Schengen, the Eurozone and soon we will be members of the OECD.”
Asked to comment on the rampant inflation, Plenković said that government cannot directly set prices in a market system: “We cannot order price formation in a market economy, but we can appeal to the responsibility of all actors in the market.”
