The Interior Minister presented his annual report on the work of the police to Croatian Parliament on Thursday. The report was widely applauded by the parliamentary majority, while the opposition pointed to some areas of concern.
In parliament Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Davor Božinović presented a report on the work of the police in 2025 to MPs, emphasizing that Croatia is a safe country and that 2.5% fewer crimes were recorded last year. However, MOST MP Marin Miletić noted that there was a spike in drug trafficking last year: "An explosion of drugs is happening in Croatia. According to this report, in 2025 we had 11 927 drug seizures, the highest number ever recorded."
"The report on the work of the police very clearly confirms that Croatia is a safe, stable and orderly country. This is not only confirmed by the numbers in the report, but our fellow citizens feel it in their daily lives. According to the global peace index, Croatia is once again among the twenty safest and most peaceful countries in the world," responded HDZ MP Krešimir Ačkar.
However, SDP MP Dalibor Paus noted that the ministry’s report does not line-up with reports from some other institutions that are being ignored: "When some other institute, such as the V-Dem Institute founded by the University of Gothenburg, says that we are slowly sliding into autocracy, then it is a left-wing institute whose data is unreliable. Why should this report be any more credible?"
Minister Božinović however, said that the opposition is failing to see the bigger picture and to appreciate that overall picture that is being painted in the report: "This report is not a review of just one year; it is confirmation that we have a strong police force, but also a reminder that security requires constant investment, constant adjustments, clear rules and a decisive response from the entire system."
