Israel's genocide in Gaza continues, with some eighty Palestinians killed in Gaza city alone in the past 24 hours. A UN commission of inquiry concluded two days ago that Israel is conducting a genocide, citing sexual violence, genocidal acts and genocidal intent. All the while Israeli forces continue their siege of Gaza, where all communication channels have been severed.

On Wednesday the president of the UN General Assembly, Annalena Baerbock, echoed the recent UN vote that overwhelmingly endorsed a two-state solution, noting that the current situation was untenable: "We have the high level international conference for the peaceful settlement of the question of Palestine and the implementation of the two-state solution. This is a chance to address reality, that the Israeli Palestinian conflict cannot be resolved by endless war, continued occupation and terror. The only way to ensure that both Israelis and Palestinians can live in lasting peace, security and dignity, is the two-state solution."

On Thursday Croatian President Zoran Milanović announced that the focus of his speech at next week's United Nations General Assembly would be on the issue of Palestinian statehood. Milanović said that the situation in Gaza was a question of humanity, emphasizing that the rules must be the same for everyone. He also commented on the arming of Israel, strongly criticizing Croatian members of European parliament for not supporting the arms embargo against Israel: "I don't want to believe that Prime Minister Andrej Plenković allowed every single person in parliament to vote against the embargo on arms exports to Israel. The entire HDZ caucus and the one from the Homeland Movement voted against it. The SDP abstained, like that's noble or something. So they don't know where their heads are either. Why did they abstain? To ensure that Rheinmetall can continue to supply weapons to Israel. Someone dies so that someone else can line their pockets with money."
