Jandroković: Milanović showed that he is not the president of all citizens

“The compilation of electoral slates in the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) is in the final stage,” reported Croatian Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković in response to a journalist's inquiry and commented on the inclusion of the President of the Republic Zoran Milanović in the election race.

“You are asking me something that is clear to everyone. In these elections, that is, in the preparations for these elections in the pre-campaign, the president showed that he is not the president of all citizens. And he favored one political option. This is contrary to what the Croatian Constitution and Croatian laws stipulate. So, it is already about bias,” said Gordan Jandroković.

“How the Constitutional Court and the State Election Commission will position themselves according to this is something you have to ask them, I wouldn’t get into giving advice, he added.

He emphasized that the Constitutional Court said that the president cannot be a candidate for prime minister.

Jandroković pointed out that he does not want to comment on Zoran Milanović's statements, because that would also go against the decision of the Constitutional Court.

“In order for someone to receive a mandate,” said Jandroković, “they need to have 76 signatures as proof that they have a parliamentary majority.”

He also referred to the compilation of the HDZ slates for the parliamentary elections. He said that the HDZ will put quality people on the slates and that they will submit the slates on time.

Bačić: This election process is already contaminated

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Branko Bačić also commented on the President of the Republic Zoran Milanović.

“This election process is already contaminated. With this kind of participation of violators of the Constitution in this election process, I am not sure that we will witness fair and honest elections until the end,” he added.
