147 of the 193 United Nations member states have recognized the State of Palestine. France, Malta, and Australia have announced plans to recognize Palestine as a state in September at the 2025 United Nations General Assembly, with Canada and the United Kingdom stating they will as well subject to certain conditions.
Croatian President Zoran Milanović recently commented on the Israeli military's plans to completely Gaza, in which he asserted that this confirms that the Israeli regime plans to ethnically cleanse Gaza, which would be a war crime. Milanović said that as a result any form of military cooperation with the Israeli regime at the EU level should be urgently terminated and banned, and that Palestine should be recognized. He also called on the Government to do so independently of the European Union. His statement was commented on by the Speaker of the Croatian Parliament, Gordan Jandroković, during his visit to Dubrovnik-Neretva County on Monday: "Talks on that issue are underway. As you know the situation is very complex, with ongoing debates at the United Nations Security Council. There is a big split in the international community as to how to stop the conflict. What is important for Croatia is that the war comes to an end and that we move to peace, and obviously, the most important thing is to protect innocent civilians who unfortunately, are also dying."
During his visit to Dubrovnik-Neretva County Jandroković met with Mayor Mate Franković and Dubrovnik-Neretva County Prefect Blaž Peza, who informed him of ongoing projects in the city and the County. The Parliament Speaker said that they had the full support of both Government and Parliament in completing their projects: "The projects deal primarily with traffic infrastructure, social programs, health care, education and day care centers, and they have the full support of the Croatian government and parliament. I'm also pleased that both the city and the county are politically stable, and expect that along with a good tourist season we will continued to enjoy good cooperation."
