The Croatian Interior Minister recently presented a report on the work of the police in 2025 to MPs in parliament, at which time he emphasized that Croatia was a safe country and that 2.5% fewer crimes were recorded last year.
Addressing reporters after Wednesday’s cabinet session, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Davor Božinović condemned the recent attacks on police officers in Đakovo, Gospić and Pula, reminding that an attack on a police officer is an attack on the state. He also questioned why courts are handing out suspended sentences in three out of four such cases.
"An attack on a police officer, is not an attack on one person, it is an attack on the country, the rule of law and the institutions that are in the service of protecting the citizens. So long as there are segments within the justice system that are not on board, we will not be able to send a message to existing and potential perpetrators that this will land them in jail," Minister Božinović noted.
