Plenković in New York: Presenting a Passport to a Nobel Laureate of Croatian Roots

John Martinis, a Nobel laureate of Croatian descent, will receive his Croatian citizenship certificate and passport today in New York. The documents will be officially presented to the scientist, winner of the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics, by Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, who is staying in New York ahead of his participation in the 81st United Nations General Assembly.

Andrej Plenković will also participate in several international meetings today, while tomorrow he will deliver a speech at the UN General Assembly and meet with UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

Meeting with Croats in New York

Yesterday, the Prime Minister attended a Mass and met with Croats living in New York.

Today's program will begin with the formal presentation of the citizenship certificate and passport to John Martinis, a scientist of Croatian heritage and winner of the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics.

Meetings at the UN Headquarters

In the afternoon, Plenković will participate in a meeting of partners for multilateralism, international law, peace, and prosperity, which is being held at the United Nations headquarters on the sidelines of the General Assembly.

The meeting is hosted by the President of the European Council, António Costa, the President of Kenya, and the Canadian Prime Minister.

Speech at the General Assembly and the Croatian-American Economic Forum

As part of the 81st UN General Assembly, Plenković will deliver a speech on Tuesday and meet with UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

On the sidelines of the General Assembly, he will also participate in a series of other gatherings, including the climate platform summit, a summit dedicated to ocean protection, and the Croatian-American Economic Forum.

"Numerous bilateral meetings with world leaders and economic representatives are also scheduled," reported HTV journalist Gordan Žvanović in HTV's noon news broadcast.
