Vujčić at Money Motion: Digital Euro possible as early as 2029

This year, European Parliament should adopt a legislative framework for the introduction of the digital euro, and next year, a project to prepare for its introduction in 2029 will be launched - said the Croatian National Bank Governor on the second day of the Money Motion conference.

“Issuing a digital euro,” he points out, “will not diminish the importance of cash.”

“The use of cash will be strengthened with this regulatory package when it is adopted, because cash will have to be accepted as a means of payment, except in some exceptional circumstances. The same as the digital euro, which will be nothing more than a digital counterpart, a digital variant of cash, meaning central bank money that will be carried in an electronic wallet instead of a classic wallet,” said Boris Vujčić, the Governor of the Croatian National Bank.
