A slew of new bomb threats were reported on Tuesday morning. After some fifty schools in Split-Dalmatia County received bomb threats on Monday, schools in Zagreb and the wider Dubrovnik area were targeted on Tuesday.
While distressing for students, parents and teachers, all of the bomb threats received today turned out to be false alarms. However, according to the principal of the First Gymnasium in Zagreb, Dunja Marušić Brezetić, classes had to be cancelled none-the-less: "Given that we weren't sure when it would be our turn, we initially cancelled the first two hours, then three hours, and given that we're still waiting, class for the First Gymnasium has been cancelled for the entire day."
"Our feedback from the schools is that they all contacted the police, that they all evacuated their schools, and that they're waiting for the schools to be cleared by police or bomb disposal units. Some schools have already been cleared, no explosive devices were found so the students were returned to their classrooms," said the head of Dubrovnik-Neretva County's Department for Sports, Culture and Education, Jelena Dadić Račić.
Commenting in the recent wave of bomb threats, Science, Education and Youth Minister Radovan Fuchs called for the harshest punishment for the person or persons responsible: "Obviously, it is in someone’s interest to create this kind of confusion and panic. But there is no panic right now, and I don't think there is any reason to panic. It's difficult to say what their motives are, in fact it seems to me that this isn't one person. But, the relevant authorities are working on this, and I hope that the Interior Minister and everyone else with succeed in quickly identifying the perpetrators or perpetrators, and that they will be punished accordingly. Because, this kind of thing deserves the maximum possible condemnation and punishment."
