Economy Minister Ante Šušnjar said he expects relations between Croatia and Hungary to improve after Sunday’s elections, which saw long-time Prime Minister Viktor Orban's party lose power, describing them as an opportunity for a fresh start, particularly in the energy sector.
Speaking on the sidelines of the International Economy Fair in Mostar, Šušnjar said he hopes for “relaxed and improved” relations, noting that the two countries are historically friendly but that recent tensions were linked to energy infrastructure and capacity issues under the previous Hungarian administration.
Commenting on oil supply via JANAF, he said Croatia’s capacity has been proven in practice and is sufficient to meet all needs. On relations between INA and Hungary’s MOL, he said talks are ongoing and progressing in a positive direction, expressing confidence in an amicable solution.
Regarding earlier plans to purchase additional INA shares, Šušnjar reaffirmed Croatia’s intention to proceed, but only under market conditions.
He also stressed Croatia’s key role in ensuring oil and fuel supplies for Bosnia and Herzegovina, highlighting the importance of Croatian ports and the Rijeka refinery, particularly in times of crisis.
