Some one hundred firefighters backed by air support are battling a massive wildfire that broke out near the town of Skradin on Wednesday morning. The fire took hold in a pine forest with plenty of underbrush, and made its way towards local villages.
Some property damage has been registered and some residents have been evacuated. Dragan Urukalo from the village of Bratiškovci: "To be honest, it's not all the same to us because we're surrounded on the other side at the roundabout and with this bit over here. So, one can't be relaxed when it's next to one's house."
Meanwhile, a fire that erupted in the area of Kaštel Sućurac last night, has been contained by firefighters. The fire spread from low-lying vegetation to the premises of the local waste disposal utility. One firefighter sustained minor injuries during the intervention. The Fire chief of the Kaštela operational area, Darko Maretić: "We're happy with the current situation. The fire has not been extinguished yet, but our firefighters have contained the blaze and are currently working on those areas where we still have open flames."
