Traffic has increased on major roads and at some border crossings. Between the Lučko toll booth and the Bosiljevo 2 interchange in the direction of the sea, driving is slow and congested with occasional delays.
According to Croatian Motorways (HAC) data, from midnight to 11 am, more than 21,500 vehicles entered the Lučko toll booth, and 1,800 exited. Traffic is heavy and slow, especially on the section to Bosiljevo and Karlovac, but also on the old state road around Slunj.
A traffic accident on the Zagreb bypass caused a traffic jam, and several ambulances could be seen heading onto the highway.
HAC advises everyone to drive carefully and adapt to the road conditions so that everyone can reach their destination safely.
As for border crossings, the biggest crowds, especially for freight vehicles, are at the border crossings with Serbia at Bajakovo and Tovarnik. The waits are several hours long due to the new customs collection system.
For passenger vehicles, the wait is between half an hour and an hour.
The crowds are expected to last all day, and the Croatian Auto Club (HAK) says that drivers should monitor their website where they can see the latest data regarding road traffic and possible delays or slowdowns.
“We have just started so we are still patient,” one passenger commented on the traffic jam on the road.
“There will be a little more to Karlovac and then we hope it will clear up,” she said.
On the way to the seaside in Zadar, one driver commented that the drive takes twice as long as usual.
“There is a queue to Bosiljevo, from Bosiljevo it should be easier, but again it depends on the drivers themselves,” he said.
