The Croatian Mint has set a World Record for producing the world's smallest coin.
The commemorative gold coin, with a diameter of 1.99 mm and weighing only 0.05 grams, features the Istrian town of Hum and Istria's own breed of cattle, the Boškarin.
"I had the privilege of witnessing the entire minting process of this coin that celebrates the Istrian town of Hum, and I was impressed by the way in which the long-standing numismatic tradition in Croatia is respected while also pushing the boundaries of technological progress," said the adjudicator of Guinness World Records, Victor Fenes.
The theme of the issue is also quite fitting: the piece is dedicated to Hum, the world's smallest city.
Hum, with a population of about two dozen inhabitants and its perfectly preserved stone walls, is a favourite tourist destination.
The obverse depicts the city Hum a bird's eye view, while the coin's reverse shows the head of an Istrian cattle with its typical long horns.
