Defense Minister Ivan Anušić announced in Brussels on Wednesday that Croatia will soon sign a contract with a domestic company to protect critical infrastructure from drone attacks.

The system to be procured includes an operations center, radars, drone interceptors and 30-millimeter cannons and will be fully automated. It involves two stationary and two mobile systems for combating drones worth 115 million euros.

“The contract will enable us to deliver a system that will protect our critical infrastructure from drone air attacks and anything that could threaten our airspace,” said Minister Ivan Anušić, adding that he could not provide more details, except that the contract will be signed in December.

He stressed that unidentified drones that enter someone's airspace without authorization should definitely be shot down.

“Of course they need to be shot down because one of these drones can carry explosives and hit what we need to protect, our infrastructure,” said Anušić.

Croatia signs contract with Slovakia on sale of specialized military fabrics

Croatia and Slovakia signed a multi-year contract on the sidelines of a meeting of defense ministers of NATO member states on Wednesday for the supply of specialized military fabrics for the needs of the Slovak armed forces, worth around 30 million euros.

The contract, which includes Croatian fabric manufacturers Čateks and Galeb, was signed in the presence of the defense ministers by Goran Basarac, president of the board of the Alan Agency, a state-owned company responsible for the import and export of weapons and equipment, and Martin Čatloš, director of the Slovak Armaments Agency.

“We are pleased with the signing of this contract and we continue to work on promoting our defense industry and marketing our products not only in Europe and NATO members, but also beyond,” said Defense Minister Ivan Anušić.

This is an eight-year contract for the supply of military fabrics for the Slovak Armed Forces. In those eight years, Croatia will supply about 2.7 million meters of fabric for the Slovak Army.

“We hope that this will be a boost to the competitiveness of the Croatian defense industry for all stakeholders,” said Basarac.
