Temperatures in continental Croatia remain below zero as the cold snap continues.
A red weather warning is in effect for the Osijek area due to snow, ice, and very low temperatures, while the Zagreb area is under an orange alert for freezing rain. Emergency rooms in the capital have reported an increase in slip-and-fall injuries on icy surfaces.
The coldest readings this morning were in western Croatia and Slavonia, with Štrigova at nearly –10°C and Osijek at –9°C. Varaždin and Bjelovar also recorded temperatures around –9°C.
Dalmatia woke up to snow this morning, including a white morning in Sinj. Winter services, deploying around 30 vehicles and about 100 workers, have been clearing roads and spreading salt as conditions alternate between snow and rain.
Since the snowstorm hit Koprivnica-Križevci County on Tuesday, 27 patients have sought medical help at Koprivnica Hospital, mostly for falls on snow and ice. Authorities are urging the public to exercise extra caution in the coming days.
The Primorje-Gorski Kotar Police Department has warned drivers to adjust their speed and driving style for winter conditions and to use prescribed winter equipment, especially in Gorski Kotar and other mountainous areas.
The forecast calls for continued cold temperatures into next week.
