The 32nd anniversary of the "Medak Pocket" offensive was marked in Gospić on Tuesday. Six members of the Croatian Army and seven members of the Ministry of the Interior were killed in the operation, while another 53 were wounded in action.

Along with wreath laying and candle lighting ceremonies, holy mass was served for the killed, missing and deceased Croatian defenders. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Veterans Affairs Tomo Medved presented certificates of appreciation to all units that participated in the operation.

"All these achievements, the realization of our strategic goals, all of this would not have happened if it were not for these brave people, members of the special police, guards brigades, reserve units, and basic police. So, all of us united, organized as early as 1993, had a clear message - we will defend our homeland and liberate every corner of our beautiful country," Minister Medved said after the ceremony.

"This plaque, a thank-you from the Veterans Affairs Minister, means a lot to us, especially because of our fallen and wounded comrades-at-arms, but also for us personally, the participants in the operation. It is important to see that state institutions still remember. That they recognize our great success," said Antonijo Šebalj, the president of the Association of Homeland War Veterans of the 9th Guards Brigade.
