Split marked the 30th anniversary of the application of DNA technology in the identification of victims of the Homeland War.

This is a historic moment when, precisely in Croatia, at the Split Clinical Hospital, thanks to the work of Croatian scientists and experts, it was scientifically confirmed for the first time in the world that this technology can be systematically applied in the identification of victims from mass graves.

“In this way, we have shown that our scientific aspect, our human aspect, to help people has prevailed, to do the best we can, so that our defenders and all our civilians can get their name, their dignity, and their mothers their peace,” said Prof. Dr. Sc. Šimun Anđelinović, Dr. Med. Head of the Clinical Department of Pathology, Split Clinical Hospital.

“Our primary goal has always been to determine the identity of victims of mass graves and that is why we are doing all this, and that is why we have been relatively quiet for these 30 years and we have no intention of stopping until the last victim is identified,” said Prof. Ph.D. Dragan Primorac, MD. forensic scientist, geneticist and scientist.

“It is our priority of all priorities and we make efforts every day in terms of gathering information, test excavations, exhumations, but at the same time also identifying those remains that were exhumed earlier, but it was not possible to identify them,” said Tomo Medved, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Croatian Veterans.
