The ninth edition of Slavonian Night, a traditional gathering celebrating Croatian music in Upper Austria, was held this past weekend in Linz. The venue was packed to full capacity, and hundreds of Slavonians, along with numerous other Croatians, once again demonstrated the strength of unity outside their homeland.

The event is traditionally organized with a deep love for Croatian heritage by the Croatian Cultural and Artistic Society (KUD) Tkanica from Linz, led by president Žarko Banović. And since behind every great man stands a woman, we must also mention his hardworking wife, Silvija Banović from Vinkovci.

Under the well-known motto "Inati se Slavonijo" (Defy Them, Slavonia), this celebration in the diaspora has long grown into a true phenomenon for which tickets sell out practically in a single day. Truly impressive.

The official part of the evening opened with pride and in the spirit of tradition. Guests had the opportunity to enjoy performances by folklore groups, and the members of KUD Tkanica captured everyone's attention in lavish traditional costumes, bringing authentic songs and choreographies from the Slavonian region.

Through the kolo (traditional circle dance), song, and dance, the spirit of Slavonian villages was faithfully recreated. In the end, everyone joined together in one massive kolo: those who haven't tried it cannot imagine the atmosphere and the energy that flows through everyone in the dance.

The Tambura orchestra Fijaker was responsible for top-tier entertainment and a tireless atmosphere on the dance floor. In addition to music and dancing, visitors were able to enjoy a rich selection of traditional Slavonian delicacies.

The fact that this project, Slavonian Night in Linz, was awarded the prestigious Večernjakova Domovnica award testifies that this is one of the most visited regional gatherings in this part of Europe.

Everyone—from the organizers and performers to the guests—agreed that these gatherings are priceless for nurturing bonds and preserving the cultural identity of the Croatian people in Austria.
