On Friday, members of parliament supported the Government’s proposal to designate the last week of May as the Week of Croats Abroad.

During this week, a variety of events will be held each year in cooperation with organizations of Croats abroad, as well as state, public, cultural, and other institutions.

The Government said the initiative aims to increase the visibility of Croats abroad, strengthen national self-awareness, encourage mutual understanding and all-Croatian connections, and promote a sense of belonging to one unified Croatian people. It also seeks to affirm and develop global Croatian unity.

Starting this year, the Week of Croats Abroad will coincide with Statehood Day celebrations. Events will take place in Zagreb and across the country, including a session of the Government Council for Croats Abroad.

Croats from Bosnia and Herzegovina, members of the Croatian national minority, and the Croatian diaspora will showcase their heritage and contemporary achievements to the Croatian public.
