Government and public sector union representatives held their first talks on a new collective agreement on Thursday. For some public servants the existing collective agreement expired in May, while for others it will last until March of 2028.
Talks on an increase to the base salary for 2027 for all public sectors will be held with government representatives in the fall. The President of the Independent Union of Employees of the Interior Ministry of the Republic of Croatia, Zdravko Lončar: "This is a collective agreement, which encompasses everything we are talking about. In the fall, when we have all the macroeconomic indicators, we will hold talks as to the specific amounts regarding certain rights prescribed by the collective agreement."
As for what was agreed to at Thursday’s meeting, Labour, Pension System, Family and Social Policy Minister, Alen Ružić said: "We have agreed that the rights that have been valid until today will definitely remain in effect. So existing rights have been preserved. The negotiations will continue in two basic groups, one is intangible rights that are very important to employees, and the other is tangible rights such as base salary, and in that sense the negotiations will continue next week."
