On Tuesday, October 6, at 7 p.m., the Croatian State Archives in Zagreb will host the presentation of 'Croatia: A History. From Revolution to Independence', a new book by British-Croatian historian Dr. Robin Harris. The 800-page work offers a comprehensive scholarly synthesis of modern Croatian history, from the mid-19th century to the establishment of the modern Croatian state.
Book Presentation at the Croatian State Archives
This extensive and richly illustrated study provides a detailed synthesis of Croatian history from the mid-19th century through the achievement of modern state independence. Unlike conventional historical overviews, Harris examines not only politics and military conflicts but also delves deeply into the history of culture, society, religion, and the economy, according to the invitation.
The book will be presented by the author himself, along with Dr. Ante Žužul, Chairman of the Board of Školska knjiga; historian Dr. Mario Jareb; and the book’s editor, Dr. Deniver Vukelić.
Former Adviser to British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher
The book’s author, Robin Harris, is also known to the public as a former political adviser to British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. Today, as a Croatian citizen and lecturer at the Catholic University of Croatia, Harris combines his expertise as a historian with the experience of a firsthand observer of high-level politics.
Reviewers describe his approach to difficult and often controversial subjects—such as the Second World War and the Croatian War of Independence—as consistently objective, critical, and grounded in many years of research into Croatian archival sources.
