Croatia’s largest book fair, Interliber, opened Tuesday at the Zagreb Fairgrounds, featuring more than 360 publishers from 15 countries. The event includes dozens of author appearances, presentations, and workshops.
This year, the fair introduces a female authors’ club and a children’s storytelling corner, with Irish Booker Prize–winning author Paul Lynch as the featured guest. Visitors can also enjoy discounts on recent and newly released books.
“We have deep discounts on books older than one year, and up to 20% off on books published this year,” said Slavko Kozina, president of the Association of Publishers and Booksellers.
In recent years, Interliber has grown beyond a simple book sale. “It has become an inspirational event, where readers can meet writers and academics discussing complex topics,” Kozina added.
Prime Minister Andrej Plenković pledged ongoing support for the publishing industry and highlighted government efforts to encourage reading among young people.
“The strong support we give to our publishers and the entire literary and publishing space will continue, with an emphasis on fostering a reading culture among younger generations. That’s the purpose of the ‘culture card’ — 100 euros for every 18-year-old to spark interest in arts and culture,” Plenković said.
