Croatia issues Dražen Petrović commemorative coin collection

The Croatian National Bank has issued silver and gold commemorative coins featuring Croatian basketball legend Dražen Petrović on the occasion of what would have been his 60th birthday. 

The gold coins come in denominations of 100 and 200 euros and the silver ones in values of 4, 6 and 8 euros. The coins were released on Thursday through Croatian Mint’s website.

"The Croatian National Bank has entrusted the Croatian Mint with the sale of these coins via their website. Later, domestic and international sales will also go through the Croatian Mint's partners and distributers,” said Damir Bičanić, the chairman of the central bank’s Commission for Money.

The most expensive coin from this limited series, worth just under 10 thousand euros, has already sold out.

Petrović died tragically in 1993 in a car accident in Germany at the height of his basketball career.
