Police uncover a shocking murder-suicide in the Istrian town of Medulin

Initially, the two deaths were treated as unrelated. However, it was later established that the corpse in the Adriatic Sea was indeed that of a family member of the deceased elderly woman discovered in a family home in Medulin.

A shocking murder suicide has been uncovered in the Istrian town of Medulin. It is believed that a 57-year-old man killed his 79-year-old mother and then committed suicide. The woman's body was found in the family home on Saturday, after which police launched a man-hunt for her son. The man-hunt ended on Sunday morning after his body was discovered floating in the sea. Pula Police Department spokeswoman Suzana Sokač: "We found a deceased 79 year-old women in a family home in Medulin. There were signs of violence, and the police immediately conducted an investigation, and an autopsy has been requested so as to ascertain the exact cause of death. At roughly ten minutes after eight this morning we received a call that there is was a body floating in Medulin Bay. We dispatched police divers, who confirmed that the body was that of a 57 year-old male who is a family member of the deceased women in Medulin."


For many in Medulin this came as a shock, especially for one longtime neighbor: "I knew them. The father was from here and his wife was Austrian, she lived here with her son. But I hadn't seen her in years because she was bed-ridden. I saw him from time-to-time working as a painter in the area. They were a quiet and normal family. There were never any problems with them."
