Rijeka advances to the Round of 16 in the Conference League

Rijeka have advanced to the round of 16 in UEFA’s Conference League, defeating Cypriot side Omonia 4-1 on aggregate. After a 1-0 win in Nicosia last week, Rijeka dominated the return leg at home on Thursday, winning 3-1.

Omonia struck first in the 13th minute, with Muamer Tanković opening the scoring. Rijeka responded in the second half, with Croatian international Toni Fruk leveling the match in the 52nd minute with a precise strike from the edge of the penalty area, effectively securing progression to the next round.

Fruk doubled Rijeka’s lead in the 67th minute. Adu-Adjei’s shot was parried by Omonia goalkeeper Uzoho, and Fruk was quickest to react, slotting the ball into the net from close range for 2-1.

The third goal came in the 79th minute from English forward Daniel Adu-Adjei. Exploiting a lapse in the Omonia defense, Adu-Adjei bypassed the goalkeeper outside the box and calmly finished with a precise lob to seal the 3-1 victory.

Rijeka will discover their round of 16 opponent on Friday at the draw in Nyon, where they could face either French side Strasbourg or Polish club Raków Częstochowa.

The first leg of the round of 16 is scheduled at Rijeka’s home ground on March 12, with the return match set for March 19.
