Croatia’s top men’s alpine skier, Filip Zubčić, finished 14th in Saturday’s Olympic giant slalom in Bormio.
After placing 16th in the first run, Zubčić started strongly in the second. However, a problem with his ski goggles in the third section of the course forced him to remove them mid-run, disrupting his concentration and making conditions significantly more difficult. At that stage, he was running fourth, but ultimately dropped to 14th place.
“I know that in competitions like this, only medals matter, and from that perspective I’m not happy,” Zubčić said after the race. “But I’m not going to dwell on it. I race again in two days, and there are still many races left this season. I gave my best. We all wanted more, but that’s sport—we move on.”
Brazil’s Lucas Pinheiro Braathen won the gold medal.
Zubčić will also compete in the slalom event in Bormio on Monday, February 16, alongside Croatian teammates Samuel Kolega and Istok Rodeš.
