Ludogorets defeats Rijeka 3:1 in Champions League qualifying

Ludogorets defeated Croatian Champions Rijeka 3:1 in Razgrad, Bulgaria on Wednesday night in the second leg of second round qualifying for the UEFA Champions League, dashing Rijeka’s hopes of advancing in the qualifications.

In a nail-biting and grueling match, Rijeka and Ludogorets went into two rounds of extra time after drawing 1: all. Ivaylo Cochev scored for Ludogoretz in the 107the minute to take the lead and Stanislav Ivanov sent it into the net in the 117th to make it 3:1.


To complicate things further, Rijeka was down to 8 men after two of its players – Gabrijel Rukavina and Toni Fruk - were sent off with red cards during regular time. Amer Gojak scored the only goal for Rijeka in the 71st minute.


The first leg had ended in a scoreless draw. Rijeka has now been relegated to the Europa League Champions Path third qualifying round.
