Parliament confirms Tomislav Ćorić as new Minister of Finance

Croatian Parliament, with 76 votes in favor and 52 against, expressed confidence in Tomislav Ćorić to hold the position of Minister of Finance. Prior to that, Parliament dismissed Ćorić from the position of Vice Governor of the Croatian National Bank.

The new Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Tomislav Ćorić, swore to perform his duties honorably and conscientiously, to respect the Croatian Constitution, laws and legal order, and to advocate for the overall progress of Croatia.

“I congratulate the Minister and Deputy Prime Minister and wish him much success in performing this important and demanding duty,” said Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković.

Ćorić passed the first parliamentary stage, was heard on Wednesday and received the support of the relevant Committee for Finance and the State Budget, he still needed a vote of confidence in Parliament, and in order to be confirmed as Minister, he had to receive the support of 76 representatives.

Prime Minister Andrej Plenković reiterated on Wednesday that Ćorić has all the necessary professional references for the position of Minister of Finance and that he believes that he will fit in well and that his return to the executive branch will be painless and effective.

He pointed out that he is a politician and expert who was a member of his first and second government, served as Minister of Labor, Minister of Environmental Protection and ultimately Minister of Economy. He comes from the Faculty of Economics, the Department of Finance, and the position of Vice Governor of the Croatian National Bank, and has very significant and rich experience.

“The election of a minister is never routine, it always carries a special emotion, a political battle. We have heard that the opposition has been quite rough in the last few days, but we are united in the governing coalition, so I expect that Tomislav Ćorić will become Minister of Finance in the government and that he will be successful in that position like his predecessor,” said Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković.
