The contract for the demolition of the Vjesnik Tower in Zagreb was signed today between Construction Minister Branko Bačić and EURCO, a construction company based in Vinkovci.

A 30-day deadline now begins for completion of the first phase of the works, which includes eliminating safety hazards and creating the conditions necessary to reopen the underpass on Slavonska Avenue. The full project - including demolition of the 16-storey skyscraper and the disposal of construction waste - must be completed within three months of the contract signing.

“The site officially opens at the moment the contract is signed, so the deadlines begin today. I am confident that machinery will arrive on site within the next few days and that all necessary preparations will be carried out. I do not believe the contractor will delay, because as I have already said, given the quantity of concrete, the complexity of the structure, and the damage it sustained, the 90-day deadline is extremely demanding,” Minister Bačić said.

On November 17, 2025, several youths entered the largely vacant building and lit fires that quickly spread throughout the structure. Following an assessment conducted by the government and structural engineering experts, authorities concluded that the fire had caused irreparable damage and that demolition was the only viable solution.
