Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković announced that he will meet with OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann on Friday, which, according to him, is recognition of Croatia's achievements because we have met almost all the conditions required for membership and, he points out, we are on the right track to becoming a member of the OECD.

The Croatian Parliament Speaker announced that he will meet with OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann on Friday, before leaving for the semi-finals of the European Handball Championship in Denmark. “The Secretary General is coming to Zagreb to clearly acknowledge the achievements of the Republic of Croatia because we have fulfilled almost all the conditions required for membership, dialogue with them is excellent and we are on the right track to becoming a member of the OECD,” said Gordan Jandroković.

Achieving membership, he noted, depends on the OECD member countries because they all need to give their consent, but the sooner the better. Today we have the famous Criminal Code on the ballot, where we made a mistake and I am sure we will correct it, so it is one of the laws important for the OECD, emphasized the head of parliament.

Regarding the election of Tomislav Ćorić, he said that they are united in the governing coalition and he expects Ćorić to become Minister of Finance and Deputy Prime Minister, and that he will be successful in that position, just like his predecessor.

“What kind of policy he will lead and whether there will be any changes will depend on him and the government, but Marko Primorac did an excellent job and I thank him for that, and I am sure that Ćorić will continue just as successfully, in accordance with his personality because he probably has some of his own priorities and some things that he would do related to his vision of Croatia, but I expect the continuation of successful policies,” said Jandroković.

“The opposition,” he added, “tried to accuse Ćorić of various acts, however, as far as I know, he has neither been accused nor suspected and the opposition can speak, but it needs to be argued.”

“To accuse people lightly, which has become a practice in Croatian Parliament, in my opinion is inappropriate and incorrect and I believe that Ćorić can perform the duty of Minister of Finance very well, and from what I know, that is his primary desire and the portfolio that he wanted the most, he responded to the statement that the opposition "welcomed the future minister with a knife".

Jandroković rejected the thesis that the Croatian Democratic Union does not have enough personnel and added that the prime minister was misinterpreted because he very clearly said that the new Minister of Finance should be "a man who is professional, who understands finances, a person with political experience who will immediately take over the portfolio without adjustment time and Tomislav Ćorić is, in the opinion of the prime minister, and I agree with that, the best choice."
