The Croatian Prime Minister and Education Minister awarded another 31 contracts on Thursday for the construction, reconstruction and equipping of primary schools for the needs of single-shift work. The contracts are valued at €105.3 million, with funding being secured from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.

Presenting the contracts to the head of units of local government and schools in Zagreb on Thursday, Prime Minister Andrej Plenković stressed that education is among the key priorities of his government: “This is reflected not only in rhetoric but, above all, in programs, and this is also seen in the increase in the budget of the Science, Education and Youth Ministry. When we started in 2016, the budget amounted to €1.8 billion, and today it is €4.6 billion.

The fundamental goal of the Government, he emphasized, is that all children have secured places in kindergartens and that all primary schools in the country are transitioned to a single-shift regime.

"We want all our children to attend classes in one shift, for teachers to have better opportunities and for children to gain knowledge and competences that will help them in their future lives and careers," added Education Minister Radovan Fuchs.
