Ukrainian national arrested for smuggling illegal migrants

Police in Istra County have arrested a 43-year-old Ukrainian national for smuggling foreign citizens into Croatia illegally.

Police officers working to prevent illegal migration stopped a Spanish-registered vehicle in the Oprtalj area on Friday around midnight in which a 43-year-old man was transporting foreign nationals to an agreed destination for profit, the police reported on Sunday.

On suspicion of having committed the criminal offense of illegal entry, movement and stay in the Republic of Croatia, another member state of the European Union or a signatory of the Schengen Agreement, the suspect has been placed in detention and a criminal complaint against him has been filed.

The police dealing with the case have reminded that all foreign citizens are treated in accordance with the Law on Foreigners.
