Two Canadairs took off to extinguish a fire in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Two CL-415 firefighting Canadairs with two crews from the Armed Forces of the Republic of Croatia took off at 1:15 p.m. from the Colonel Mirko Vukušić Barracks in Zemunik to extinguish a fire in the municipality of Prozor-Rama in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Ministry of Defense reported on Sunday.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, Ivan Anušić, issued an Order sending two firefighting aircraft of the Croatian Air Force to BiH, based on a Government Decision approving the border crossing of the Republic of Croatia for members of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Croatia for the purpose of providing humanitarian aid in extinguishing fires abroad, according to the statement.

This is the third deployment of members of the 855th Firefighting Squadron to provide assistance in firefighting abroad this year, and the second time that assistance is being provided to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

"Once again, the readiness and indispensability of members of the Croatian Army trained for firefighting, specifically the military flight crews of the firefighting squadron, whose involvement is invaluable in conditions of devastating fires, has been confirmed," the statement highlights.

It is also explained that, in accordance with Article 56, Paragraph 1 of the Defense Act, the Armed Forces of the Republic of Croatia may cross Croatia's borders to provide humanitarian assistance to another state based on a decision made by the Government of the Republic of Croatia, with the prior consent of the President of the Republic.

Croatia sends two Canadairs to BiH to help extinguish fires

At a conference-call session today, in accordance with Article 56 of the Defense Act, the Government adopted a Decision on the border crossing of the Republic of Croatia by the Armed Forces of the Republic of Croatia for the purpose of providing humanitarian assistance in extinguishing fires in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the area of the Prozor-Rama municipality.

Prime Minister Andrej Plenković had previously spoken by phone with the Chairwoman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Borjana Krišto, who requested Croatia's assistance in firefighting.

To carry out this task in BiH, the use of two Canadair CL-415 aircraft of the Croatian Air Force, with two crews consisting of members of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Croatia, was approved.
