Omiš residents against the Dugi Rat - Omiš road: Project without funding, leads nowhere

A large number of Omiš residents gathered to protest the announcement of the construction of, as they say, a failed and overpaid Dugi Rat - Omiš expressway. They warn that the planned route endangers people's safety and devastates the environment.

The project, worth 100 million euros, plans multiple drilling and blasting of the rock massif above the town’s houses for the construction of three tunnels and a viaduct.

The exit to Omiš is planned on a roundabout in the tunnel. For twenty years, they have been warning about the illogicality and proposing one tunnel and roundabout in the open, at Zakučac, which is cheaper and more efficient.

The expressway would solve the problems related to huge traffic jams, but they are willing to wait a few more years just for the project to benefit everyone.

“The solution we have now is nothing - in terms of traffic, environment, in terms of space protection, use of space and the position of intersections and connecting roads. This is a project without any cover. It is a waste of money without any final effect,” civil engineer Ivo Vulić from the “Alliance for Poljica” association.

“The contractor has been selected, but the contract has not yet been signed. The project is absolutely flawed, it does not solve anything and only creates problems. The existing project does not envisage going out to Omiš, but two or three kilometers further to Ravnička riva or to Dugi rat and then going down into the crowd again. To avoid these things, they invented a roundabout in the middle of the hill - in Komornjak,” emphasized the organizer of the protest Ivan Barišić.
